SSH Tips and Tricks

I'm tired of programming in prism, i want to program at home.

Andrew uses an SSH client in class to mimic a Linux environment in Windows and to access example files from his login...

I want to do this, but i don't know how!

I spoke to Andrew he said any SSH client will work (putty...etc)
and that everything has to be saved and edited at york to do it through that client

does anyone use SSH at home?
if so can you put the URL for YorkU's SSH portal in the comments of this post?
as well anything you know about SSH that others will find useful would be great...

Later
Jake

yeah u can use putty
i think you can find it in the cse s website in "labs" or 'accessing your account' or something like that
just browse thru www.cse.yorku.ca and you'll see it

it may be red.yorku.ca

Ssh to red.cs.yorku.ca with your prism username/pass. Here's the exact url about it:
http://www.cse.yorku.ca/tech/services/security.html#ssh

It's also possible to open up some webspace by fixing the permissions on your ~/www dir. The resulting webspace is at
www.cse.yorku.ca/~prismusername/

yeah man found it

Other "from home" tips:
http://www.cse.yorku.ca/prism/about.html
Towards the bottom is a list of various prism servers.
The Web access was mentioned above.
There's also ftp access for moving files both ways.
Or, if you're a security nut like me you'll use an ssh-based tool to transfer files. The tools that come with PuTTY are pscp and psftp.
It's also possible to set up key authentication so you don't need to type a password every time you log in, but obviously you should be careful with that. The help files can probably explain the process better than me.

I use SSH at home.
Here is the direct link for putty.
http://www.putty.nl/latest/x86/putty.exe

and here is the download page
http://www.putty.nl/download.html

as for the configuration
HOST: red.cse.yorku.ca

Once you are connected
Login as: cse6XXX
password: xxxxxx

Thant's it.

I also found a nice free software that I want to share.
It transfers files from your account to your computer.

Here is the link
winscp.net

look for version 3

If you have any other questions let me know.

why do you need ftp'ing files and stuff. no on eis checking them or anything, so if you can finish assignment by yourself there is no use programing in lab.

you can use Xmanager which can be downloaded from download.com. With that i can use nedit, i dont like to use pico or something else. It works same as you are sitting in the lab and working in the computer while all the work is saved in you cse username.

I'm really inspired along with your writing skills and also with the format for your weblog. Is that this a paid subject matter or did you customize it yourself? Anyway stay up the nice high quality writing, it's rare
to look a nice weblog like this one nowadays..

Woah! I'm really loving the template/theme of this site. It's simple,
yet effective. A lot of times it's very difficult to get that "perfect balance" between superb usability and appearance. I must say that you've done a superb job with this.

Also, the blog loads very fast for me on Internet explorer.

I'm impressed, I must say. Rarely do I encounter a blog that's both educative
and interesting, and without a doubt, you have hit the nail on the head.
The problem is something which too few people are speaking intelligently about.

I am very happy I came across this in my hunt for something regarding this.
